This award recognises HR teams within public sector organisations that have delivered outstanding workforce leadership and organisational development over the past 12 months. The judges will want to see a comprehensive approach to HR across areas such as workforce planning, employee engagement, wellbeing, talent development, and organisational effectiveness. Entrants should demonstrate how HR initiatives have strengthened workforce capability, improved employee experience, and supported the delivery of high-quality public services. Entry is by a 5-page A4 PDF submission; the judges will be looking for clear information backed up by facts that pays particular attention to the criteria listed below.

  • Background: Please provide an overview of the organisation including workforce size, structure, and the scope of public services delivered. Outline the role of the HR function and its overall people strategy, including key workforce challenges such as resource constraints, policy changes, or workforce transformation.
  • Key Initiatives & Challenges: Please outline the key HR initiatives implemented over the past year. This may include workforce planning, employee engagement programmes, training and development initiatives, organisational change programmes, or wellbeing supports. Include any specific challenges faced and how these were addressed.
  • Collaboration: Describe how collaboration between HR, leadership teams, and wider departments contributed to improved workforce outcomes. This may include cross-functional working, stakeholder engagement, or employee involvement in HR initiatives.
  • Outcomes & Results: Highlight the outcomes of the HR initiatives, providing evidence of how they have improved workforce performance and organisational effectiveness. This may include improvements in employee engagement scores, retention rates, workforce capability, productivity, or service delivery outcomes.
  • Supporting Statements & Testimonials: Please include any additional statements or facts that support your entry, such as employee feedback, testimonials, survey results, or external recognition.
