Skillnet Ireland supported more than 510 businesses and 1,800 workers across Co Mayo in 2025, delivering over 13,500 training days through its business networks and national initiatives, as figures from the agency's annual report confirm sustained regional demand for enterprise-led upskilling.

The Connaught Telegraph reported that 95 per cent of participating companies in Mayo were small and medium-sized enterprises. The greatest uptake came from the agriculture sector, followed by services, retail, legal, health, construction, and food and drink.

Of those who undertook training in the county, 54 per cent were women and 46 per cent were men, with workers aged 30 to 39 availing of upskilling supports more than any other age group.

Nationally, Skillnet Ireland engaged over 23,000 businesses in 2025, delivering training to 84,515 workers across the Irish economy. Business contributions totalled €26.5 million, representing 36 per cent of the total €74 million investment in enterprise upskilling, reflecting strong industry co-investment in workforce development.

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless said the figures demonstrate the link between skills investment and economic competitiveness. He said: "The engagement of more than 23,000 businesses in Skillnet Ireland programmes during the year demonstrates a clear recognition that skills development is essential to driving productivity, growth and competitiveness. As our economy continues to evolve, supporting lifelong learning and workforce development is more important than ever."
