Belfast-based arts and cultural management company MayWe has become a signatory of the Age-friendly Employer Pledge, a nationwide programme led by the Centre for Ageing Better, committing to improve recruitment, retention, and development opportunities for workers aged 50 and over. The move is relevant to HR professionals and people managers building more inclusive, multigenerational workforce strategies.

Love Belfast reported that the pledge represents the latest in a series of employment policies introduced by MayWe, which operates 2 Royal Avenue, Belfast City Council's Community and Cultural Hub, and already partners with Age Friendly Belfast to host weekly social events for older people in the city.

Lois Kennedy, joint managing director of MayWe, said: "At MayWe we are proud to be an inclusive employer and truly value the contributions of our older staff members. They all bring a wealth of experience, professionalism, and care and we know how vital they are to the success of our intergenerational team."

Kennedy noted that assumptions about older people in the workplace remain a challenge, adding: "Ambition and contribution do not end at 50." She said the pledge and an age-inclusive culture would help create a workplace where everyone can succeed regardless of age.

By signing the pledge, MayWe commits to attracting talent from a wider and more diverse pool, supporting employee development at every career stage, and contributing to a stronger, more inclusive labour market in Belfast.

Dr Carole Easton OBE, chief executive at the Centre for Ageing Better, said employers who embrace age diversity benefit from a wider talent pool, improved productivity, and greater innovation.

With approximately one in three workers in the UK aged 50 or over, age-inclusive employment policies are increasingly recognised as a strategic workforce priority rather than a compliance exercise.
