Laois employers invited to workforce development workshop as AI and talent pressures reshape the labour market

Laois County Council and Laois Chamber Alliance have partnered to deliver a half-day workforce development workshop for business owners, HR managers, and senior leaders across County Laois, as employers grapple with recruitment pressures, rapid digital change, and the need to build more resilient teams. The event is relevant to HR professionals and people managers seeking practical guidance on talent strategy in an evolving labour market.

The Irish Independent reported that the workshop, titled 'The Future of Work — Shaping a Future Ready Workforce for a Thriving Laois', takes place on 17 April 2026 from 8:30am to 12:30pm at the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise, and is being delivered in partnership with ReSHAPE and Regional Skills.

The programme includes expert input and interactive elements focused on mapping skills needs, strengthening talent pipelines, and unlocking productivity. Attendees will hear from Peter Cosgrove of Futurewise, who will address how organisations can use AI as a strategic advantage, what upskilling and reskilling look like in practical terms, and how businesses can respond to emerging challenges including digital overload and burnout.

Jackie Carroll, CEO of Laois Chamber Alliance, said: "Our focus is simple: to give Laois employers practical guidance, real tools and direct access to the supports that can help them build resilient teams, attract talent and grow with confidence."

Angela McEvoy, director of services at Laois County Council, said bringing business leaders together to collaborate, identify supports, and plan for the future is an opportunity she hoped as many businesses as possible would avail of.

The event forms part of a wider regional collaboration to strengthen skills and employment pathways across the area and is free and open to all businesses.
