Design ID Consulting becomes Northern Ireland's 20th employee-owned business through trust transition

Northern Ireland structural, civil, and infrastructure engineering consultancy Design ID Consulting Ltd has transitioned to employee ownership, becoming the 20th employee-owned business in the region and marking a significant milestone for the employee ownership movement in Northern Ireland. The move is relevant to HR and people management professionals tracking ownership transition models that align workforce engagement with long-term business continuity.

Insider Media reported that the Royal Hillsborough-based firm, which also has offices in London and Dublin, will transfer a controlling shareholding into an Employee Ownership Trust, meaning the business will be owned on behalf of its employees while continuing to operate under its existing leadership team.

Ian Douglas, founder and managing director, said: "Design ID has always been about people and how we work together. Employee ownership allows us to protect that as we plan for the future. It provides continuity for our clients and creates a structure where our team has a genuine stake in what comes next."

Founded in 2005 by Douglas, with Macauley joining in 2007, the firm undertakes projects across a range of sectors and celebrates its 20th anniversary alongside the ownership transition.
