French multinational rail manufacturer Alstom has opened a Work and Wellbeing Suite at its Litchurch Lane Works in Derby, embedding structured employee wellbeing provision into one of the world's largest rolling stock factories, as part of a programme now active across 26 of its UK and Ireland sites.

East Midlands Business Link reported that the suite was launched during Alstom's Health and Wellbeing Week, which ran from 15 to 19 June, alongside a staff roadshow at the Derby site. It is designed to support employees across four areas: mental, physical, social, and financial wellbeing.

The facility includes a new and expectant mother room, a dark room, a multifaith prayer room, a stretching room, three quiet zones, and an open space for group exercise and social activities.

The concept was developed by colleagues Amanda Roe and Aimee Smith, before being designed and delivered by the Derby Wellbeing Champions, a volunteer group led by Annie Curtis and Amanda Roe, working alongside their substantive roles.

Andy Butters, managing director of Derby Litchurch Lane Works at Alstom, said the suite reflects the company's broader people commitment. He said: "At Alstom, we recognise that our people are our greatest strength, and their wellbeing is fundamental to everything we do. The opening of our Work and Wellbeing Suite in Derby demonstrates our continued commitment to creating a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone can thrive."

Butters also acknowledged the contribution of the volunteer team behind the project. He said: "By bringing together expert partners and providing accessible resources, we are empowering our people to take control of their mental, physical, social and financial wellbeing. I would also like to personally thank the Derby Wellbeing Champions, whose dedication has made this possible alongside their already busy roles."

During Wellbeing Week, employees could access talks, confidential one-to-one support, and advice from internal teams and external organisations including Baton of Hope, Livewell, Health Assured, HSBC, Onebright, and Tough to Talk.

The suite is currently open to Alstom staff, with plans to extend access to partner organisations on site. Alstom's Wolverhampton and Plymouth sites are already preparing their own suites, with further rollout planned across the company's 37 UK and Ireland locations.
