Helen Tynan: HR Leader 2018 award recipient

While shortlisted candidates across 17 award categories will have to wait until the night of the HR Leadership & Management Awards 2018 ceremony to be held at the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin, on Thursday, March 8th, to find out if they are successful, one trophy recipient has already been named.

On Thursday, March 8th, Helen Tynan will receive the HR Leader 2018 award, sponsored by Morgan McKinley, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to HR in Ireland.

Helen Tynan is Director of People Operations for Google in Ireland - a site with approximately 3,500 employees and 150+ team members in People Operations, also known as HR.


Helen Tynan with Katie TaylorShe also acts as a HR Business Partner for the Global Advisory Functions with 1500+ employees across EMEA.

Helen joined Google in 2010, and has 20+ years prior experience in senior HR positions with multinational companies such as Dell, Oracle, General Electric, Creative Labs and Amdahl-Fujitsu.

HR career summary:

1990-1994:

Helen took on her first job in HR as she became Senior Personnel Officer at Amdahl-Fujitsu.

1994-1995:

Worked in General Electric as Employee Relations Manager.

1995-1999:

Worked as Site HR Manager in Creative Labs.

1999-2006:

Moved to work in Oracle, as HR Business Partner.

2006-2007:

Moved to Dell, as Site HR Leader.

2007-2010:

Moved to Aviva Ireland, as Executive HRBP.

2010-present:

Moved to Google, as Director of People Operations.

Key achievements:

1986:

Awarded the Blake & Carlisle Award for highest award in Education in Ireland.

2015:

Awarded a Great Manager Award to Google's Top 25 Managers globally.

2016:

Recognised as one of Ireland's 25 Most Powerful Women by WXN.


Helen has a varied educational background - having studied Education & French, before moving into Computer Science, and then finally finding her true calling when studying Human Resources.

Originally from Cork (Helen: "the true capital of Ireland!"), in her spare time Helen and her husband, Tom, run around after 4 children, two dogs and a cat.
